The Founders Cars: 4 Fords of the Founding Members of the Fallbrook Vintage Car Club
The 57th Annual Vintage Car Show Poster (2024) highlights four Fords owned by some of the founders of the Fallbrook Vintage Car Club. The Fallbrook Vintage Car Club started as an informal Ford Model T and Model A club at the old Fallbrook Tractor shop on East Mission in 1965. In 1971 it was decided that they should open up to all vintage cars. It originally was Fall Brook Car Club but after a few meetings, they decided on Fallbrook Vintage Car Club. Paul Stiles was elected the first President (1971) and Dan Lutz, Sr. became the second president in 1975. Chuck Thomas and Bob Ingold were early members from the Model T and A days. Gary and Kathy Hesser were able to purchase and return to Fallbrook the car owned by Dan Lutz, Sr. The Club remains very active in the Community, donating the proceeds from the Car Show back to local non-profits. The Club is proud to have put on a Car Show continuously since 1965 and has produced an exceptional Poster since 1985.
Three of the original Fords were donated to the Fallbrook Historical Society and are on display in the Barn at the Rocky Crest Road Campus. The site for the Poster is in front of the Barn. The Fallbrook Historical Society was founded in conjunction with the nation’s Bicentennial in 1976. Many of the car club members were active in founding the Historical Society and acquiring the site for the Historical Society Campus. The 2.5-acre property had one clapboard house on it and research showed it to be the William Pittenger house, built about 1890. William Pittenger was the third person to be awarded the Medal of Honor for battle during the Civil War. The main museum building was built in 1993 and the Barn was added in 2006. The Fallbrook Vintage Car Club curates the Ford Room at the Campus. The Ford Room displays the Club memorabilia, including every poster, award, and program. The Historical Society also owns the Reche School House on Live Oak Road and curates the railroad Caboose on Main Street.

About the Artist: Jim Krogle
Born in Santa Monica in 1944, Jim learned from his father to love the ocean. They spent many summers sailing, fishing, and navigating to their favorite spot, Catalina Island.
In the sixties, Jim started surfing the Southern California beaches and playing guitar in a local garage band. In 1965 he began studying art at the prestigious Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. In 1969, after receiving his bachelor’s degree in illustration, Jim launched an extensive 20-plus-year career as an American Illustrator. He has received numerous awards in the field of advertising.
In 1990 Jim returned to his love of the ocean and surfing and started painting pictures of the local beaches and surf culture. Many of these art pieces include classic Woody cars. Local car clubs took notice of his work and started searching him out to paint poster art for their events. Art for the Huntington Beach Cruiser, Doheny Wood, and Fallbrook Vintage Car Club posters have become highly collectible pieces.
Jim’s detailed pen & ink and watercolor renderings present a wealth of good memories, and souvenirs of places seen and loved by locals and tourists alike.
When Jim is not painting, he can be found surfing at his favorite spot in San Onofre.
